Work activities are important in an organization .This is because without work,there is no product or service to provide .This functions of work include the following.
- economic functions:In exchange for labor individual receive necessary income with which to support themselves and family
- social functions:The work place provides opportunities for meeting new people and developing friendships .Many people spend more time at work with their co-workers than they spend at home with their family.
- social status: Work pe of social status in the community or society. It is a clue to how an individuals is regarded based on standards of importance prescribed by the community .A university vice- chancellor and a corporate chairman may have a great deal of status in the community because of the positions they occupied in their organizations. Hence, the work we do can simultaneous represent a source of social differentiation as well as a source of social integration
- identity: It provides a sense of purpose for individuals and clarifies their value or contribution to society.Thus work has is effect than any other technique of living in biding the individual more closely to a part of reality
- self esteem : namely Work contributes to self esteem in two ways a it provides individuals with an opportunity to demonstrate competence or mastery over both themselves and their environment .Individuals can now discover can do something b work reassures individual that they can carry out activities that produce something of value to other people and that they have something significant to offer .Work serves several significant to other ,but without work individual s often experience sensations of powerlessness,meaninglessness and formlessness a condition called alienation .In work, individuals have the possibility of finding meaning to their day-to-day activities provided that their is sufficiently challenging and rewarding oriented .TO BE CONTINUE.......
